Breaking Mental Health Stigma in Our Workplace

"As a teacher, I noticed that many of my colleagues were struggling with stress and burnout but were afraid to talk about it. After attending an LHI mental health awareness workshop, I started a peer support group at our school. We meet weekly to share our challenges and support each other. The school administration has also become more understanding and supportive. Mental health is no longer a taboo topic in our staffroom."

From Patient to Advocate: My NCD Journey

"I was diagnosed with diabetes three years ago and felt completely lost. I did not understand the disease or how to manage it. Through LHI's NCD awareness program, I learned about healthy eating, exercise, and medication management. Today, my blood sugar is well controlled, and I volunteer with LHI to educate others about diabetes prevention and management. I want people to know that an NCD diagnosis is not a death sentence — with the right knowledge and support, you can live a full life."

How Health Education Changed Our Village

"When Lifespring Health Initiative first came to our village in Dowa district, many people were afraid to get tested for HIV. Through community dialogues and peer education, we learned that knowing your status is the first step to living a healthy life. Today, our village has one of the highest testing rates in the district, and people living with HIV are receiving treatment and living well. The stigma is reducing, and our community is stronger because of it."

Youth Health Club Transformed My Life

"I joined the LHI Youth Health Club at my secondary school when I was 16. Before that, I had so many questions about my health that I was too embarrassed to ask anyone. The health club gave me a safe space to learn and ask questions. Now I am a peer educator, and I help other young people access health information. I have trained over 50 of my peers on reproductive health, and I feel proud to be making a difference in my community."

A Mother's Journey to Safe Delivery

"During my first pregnancy, I almost lost my life because I delivered at home without a skilled attendant. When I became pregnant again, the community health workers from LHI visited me and encouraged me to attend antenatal care. They helped me create a birth plan and arranged transport to the health facility. My second delivery was safe, and both my baby and I are healthy. I now encourage every pregnant woman in my community to deliver at a health facility."
